I was paying $600 rent for my house. When my lease was up not only did they not refund my deposit, they tacked an additional $1200 in "repairs" that THEY neglected to fix after several requests. This slick move on their behalf has affected my credit and credibility when attempting to rent. Tough lesson learned..... The cheapest ends up being the most expensive.
Let's see where do I begin? We moved into one of their houses with 2 young children and they took 3 months to get the heater working in the winter. The drains were all clogged and the toilet wouldn't flush from the day we moved in until the day we moved out. They still had cloth wiring in the house that caught on fire while we were sleeping and luckily my oldest daughter woke up to tell us there was smoke coming from her ceiling fan or we might not be here right now. Then they refused to give me back my deposit when I cancelled my lease and refused to live in that death trap any longer! They are horrible people to treat people the way they do! They prey upon low income families and military! They are the true definition of slumlords!!! I pray that they go out of business and suffer for the way they treated my family! THEY ARE CROOKS!!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!! HORRIBLE PEOPLE!!!
They are slum lords and that's all there is to it. If you are broke and HAVE to rent from them make sure you protect yourself as best as you can. Go through the property thoroughly and write down every little thing wrong even if it seems to be something small. Make a video BEFORE you move in showing everything that is wrong and SAVE IT WHERE IT WONT GET LOST, I save mine on my Facebook and make it private so that only I can see it. Anytime anything is wrong in the property call them, and also email them so there is traceable proof of your complaints. I would also call and email every other day until the problem was fixed. After you move out make a video walkthrough of the property again because they WILL SUE YOU FOR EXTRA MONEY EVERYTIME. That's how they get their money, blaming you for the crappy apartment. The MOST important thing ever is when they sue you SHOW UP TO COURT and 9 times out of 10 the judge will side with you, everyone knows they are slum lords. If you can when you move into a place ask the neighbors who the last tenant was and try to find them and ask them about anything that was wrong with the place when they stayed there, usually the same things are wrong with every place. Mainly huge roach infestations, houses aren't properly ventilated and mildew grows on walls, walls sweat, toilets don't flush properly, water heater is so old water doesn't get hot, heating and cooling issues, cracks around doors and windows so its always drafty.
